12 Days of Blogmas: And the Best Reason Ever to Play Games!

Hey! Listen. You know that popular Christmas song called the 12 Days of Christmas? Athena over at AmbiGaming came up with a cool holiday themed community collaboration idea to gamify that kinda-as-annoying-as-Navi song (that we all love or hate). Basically, it’s a countdown list each day that ends up with 364 items, times however many bloggers do this, at the end of the event (something like that… my maths is bad). Be warned that my singing voice is terrible, but here we go, eh!

🎶 On the 12th day of Blogmas, the gamers said to me: Tell us the one best reason to play video games 🎶

The biggest and best reason to play games is for FUN ESCAPISM! Ahem. No other medium can take me away from the troubles of this world, and let me live out the lives of heroes like video games can.

Everything in moderation, though! Video games have been a large part of my life for so long, and I’m grateful for that, but this year I need to find more hobbies in the real world, thus finding more humans in reality to connect with. I’ve been feeling so lonely and disconnected from the world lately, you know?

Lightning Returns

The journey of self-improvement begins with a single action, then snowballs from there. Never give up on you. You are always worth fighting for!

Oh and the rest of my Blogmas song:

🎶 … 2 games to improve, 3 gaming things in 2019, 4 dramatic moments, 5 replayed games, 6 future failed resolutions, 7 babbling blog posts, 8 cool characters, 9 games a backlogged10 playing reasons, 11 games I love, and the link to my 12 gaming memories! 🎶

Be sure to check out the host Goddess of Wisdom’s full version of the song (including links to other participants, eh). Major thanks to the amazing Athena for creating this fun collaboration! I had a blast writing my posts and reading the other Blogmas songs. And super huge thanks to anyone who read all my posts for this. You rock!

Thanks for reading!

If for some odd reason you want to read more of my posts, you can find a somewhat organized (and usually up to date) archive of my ramblings… I mean, articles here!

Really like what you read and feel like financially supporting Livid Lightning? HA! Probably not, but hey, here’s a couple ways to fuel my writing pipe dream!

My name is Ellen, and I've been babbling on the interwebz about video games for over 15 years. Video games themselves have been a large part of my life since 5-year-old me first encountered a SNES in a children's hospital. Fun times... Video game escapism is still the #1 coping mechanism for adult me these days.

  1. I’m definitely the type to disconnect from reality for a few hours while playing a video game if I get immersed enough, and definitely a valid reason to play video games. I just have to remember the real world exists occasionally. My husband doesn’t like it when I ignore him allllll the time…

    1. I love the escapism feeling games give me! Sometimes it’s nice to forget the real world, and all of its problems, exists. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to say hi to your husband once in a while, haha. Thanks for the comment! 🙂

  2. I hope you find ways to connect with more people in real life. Honestly, I’ve tried looking around in the past for video game clubs in my local area, but I don’t think they exist. Lots of board game ones which are great, but I’d really like a video game get together to meet new gamers in reality as well as online.

    1. Thanks! At least I’m trying. That’s something more than I was doing, haha. There aren’t many gamers around where I live either. I would definitely like to meet moar gamers IRL somehow!
