N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Week 3, 4, and 5)

Welcome to Part 3 of my Mass Effect 2 platinum trophy quest! You can check out Part 2 here.

Ugh! Technology. Unfortunately, my capture card failed to save a ton of screenshots from the last part of the game, but at the end of Week 4 I had completed Ellen Shepard’s easy playthrough, leaving my evil Space Dick Shepard with the task of earning 2 trophies to score the shiny platinum.

I also enjoyed the hell out of the Shadow Broker DLC that was included with my game! My only complaint about Mass Effect 2 is that Liara isn’t a companion character, but the DLC lets you spend some quality time with her at least. Did I mention I love Liara? Because I do!! Ahem.

I love these characters so much!! 😭

On Week 5, the Insanity Renegade playthrough began… sorta. My ol’ Space Dick Shepard (1st version) didn’t get very far. I wanted to keep him as an Adept, staying true to the wicked asshole I created in Mass Effect 1. Unfortunately, being an Adept on Insanity level Mass Effect 2 is a huge pain in the ass and required more patience than my depressed brain could handle.

Here’s some of the highlights I was able to recover from Week 3, 4, and 5! This period covers July 7th to the 27th 2019.

WARNING: Lots of !!!SPOILERS!!! below. Stop reading and scrolling if you don’t want the Mass Effect trilogy ruined for you. You have been warned.

N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 1
Most of the old gang is back together! Aw. Part 1 of the Shadow Broker DLC is pwning a rogue-ish Spectre named Tela Vasir, who works for the Shadow Broker. She tried to kill my badass asari super BFF. UNFORGIVABLE!!
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 2
After we killed Vasir, my Shepard really wanted to talk to Liara about the status of our relationship and all that. But no… Liara wasn’t in the mood to talk about it. That hurt a lot, not gonna lie. My Shepard reluctantly respected her boundary, though, and we headed to the Shadow Broker’s base in what I assume was awkward silence. Seriously!! Is it so hard to just tell me what’s going on with you??  I need closure or confirmation here, please. Women… jeez. 🙄 I… love you, Liara… *sobs*
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 3
And that ugly thing, my friends, is the Shadow Broker. It was really cool fighting my way into his base (Lots of lightning bolts and Liara moments!! Lovely.)
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 5
ZOMG! The fight was so fun. So much of Liara’s badassness was displayed, and my Shepard got to punch him because of the barrier thingy. Awesome!! Once he’s down, Liara takes control of his operations, becoming the new Shadow Broker.
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 6
Finally! We got to talk about us. The root cause of the drama was that Liara was worried about losing Shepard again. I promised her I’d survive the Suicide Mission and we’d live happily ever after. Aw! She accepted that and a sexy time scene ensued. Yay… whatever makes my asari life partner happy, I guess. See ya again in Mass Effect 3, my beloved super BFF!
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 7
Nice ink, girl! Anyway, Jack’s loyalty mission is to obliterate her childhood traumas off the face of the universe, quite literally. Having spent her young life as Subject Zero in a cruel Cerberus research facility, Jack wanted closure. We also met a fellow revisiting survivor who wanted to restart the program… I stopped her from killing him and he went along on his merry way before we exploded the place.

And alas, all the other screenshots I took of this playthrough (and the first part of my next one) have been lost in a technological black hole… which is a large chunk of the game… damn technology.

But yeah, I survived the final Suicide Mission and pwned the Human Reaper, then destroyed the horrifying Collector Base (screw you, Illusive Man). Tali somehow died on my first attempt… HELL NO! I reloaded and put her on my team, thus finishing Ellen Shepard’s Mass Effect 2 journey with everyone surviving. Yay!

Two trophies remain… time to resurrect my Space Dick Sheaprd for Insanity. Like I mentioned in the intro, the Insanity Adept attempt didn’t go smoothly. I just didn’t have the patience for the playstyle.

N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 1
Dick cleans up good! Kasumi’s loyalty mission on Insanity as an Adept was a huge pain, but I got through it.
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 2
What an ass…
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 3
For the Romance trophy (since Liara didn’t count last playthrough) I planned to set up Dick with Jack. The one night stand doesn’t count either, so I made him be nice to her. Worth enduring the pesky Paragon points, for sure. D’aww. The feelz!!
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 4
Take that, racist batarian bastard! Needless to say, Dick didn’t take too kindly to getting poisoned by a rogue bartender in Afterlife.
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 5
Garrus’ (aka Archangel)  recruitment mission was painfully slow going with tons of deaths, but I did it. Those krogan, man…
N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 5 6
Grunt’s mission wasn’t too bad! I cheated a bit with the final battle, using a doorway to murder the charging Tank-born krogan one at a time without mech interference.

I officially gave up on Adept Space Dick during the Horizon mission. In Week 6-ish, I rerolled him as a Infiltrator, which I’m happy to say is infinitely more fun than being an Adept on Insanity. I’m still planning to set him up with Jack. Her character is so tragic, yet intriguing.

Full details in my next update post. Stay tuned, eh.

My name is Ellen, and I've been babbling on the interwebz about video games for over 15 years. Video games themselves have been a large part of my life since 5-year-old me first encountered a SNES in a children's hospital. Fun times... Video game escapism is still the #1 coping mechanism for adult me these days.

  1. Amazing job! You’re reminding me of my mission that I used to have which was to get a million Gamerscore by attempting to 100% every game. The only games that I 100%’ed were BioShock 1, BioShock 2, Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, BioShock Infinite. Ah, the days of yesteryear.

    Anyways, keep it up!

    1. Nice!! The only game I managed a 100% on was the original Assassin’s Creed on my Xbox 360, haha. I like trophy hunting more for some reason. Impressive you 100%’d those!

      Thank you 🙂

  2. Your dedication is astounding! I could never drum up the patience to play these games on their hardest modes; I die plenty enough on easy, haha. Also, these posts are REALLY making me want to play Mass Effect again! Maybe…maybe after I get through the billion or so other games I want/need to play, as well. 😂😥
