N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Paused)

Welcome to Part 6 of my Mass Effect 2 Platinum Trophy quest! You can check out Part 5 here.

I will be honest… there are now very painful memories attached to the Mass Effect series due to recent BFF-losing events (we talked about the games a lot, I played ME3 multiplayer with them regularly, and I still miss them greatly). I’ve been taking a break from my quest to play a new IP game (GreedFall) while I heal.

In the meantime, I don’t want to forget what I was doing, so here’s what Space Dick and I accomplished during Week 8 (September 1-7 2019)! TL;DR – I beat Horizon on Insanity difficulty during a freaking hurricane before my power went out.

WARNING: Lots of !!!SPOILERS!!! below. Stop reading and scrolling if you don’t want the Mass Effect trilogy ruined for you. You have been warned.

Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 8
Picking up where I left off from last update, I successfully recruited Archangel (aka Garrus) after several deaths in the shutter-closing section.

Before I knew it, the call came in for the dreaded Horizon mission (this was where I gave up on my Adept Insanity run). Dick and I clearly just wanted to get the mission over with (especially since IRL the lights were flickering due to Hurricane Dorian’s arrival).

Um… Miranda? Hovering a couple feet away from cover is NOT taking cover. Don’t make me waste medi-gel on you…

Can’t say I blame the cowardly mechanic for being terrified of Dick… he looks pretty menacing in the dark.

I’ll spare you the finer details on how many freaking times I died during the rest of the mission, but I eventually did it!! I beat the final boss and drove off the Collectors. Woot!

Sure, the reunion with Ashley was all sweet and huggy at first, but quickly turned angry. She’s a loyal Alliance member, and Dick works for Cerberus now. Alas! I’m planning to set up Dick and Jack for the romance trophy anyway, and now I don’t feel as bad (sorry Miranda).

After Horizon, I helped Jacob with his dad issues. Dick was understanding of the whole “king of the island” situation, but he still left Jacob’s dad behind to face his enraged crew with one bullet. Ouch.

And finally, I did a random side mission where I chose to save colony viability instead of lives. Seemed like the evil choice Dick would make!

That’s all for now! Not sure when I will resume this Platinum Quest (likely after GreedFall is done, but depends on my feelz).

Thanks for reading!

Really like what you read and feel like financially supporting Livid Lightning? HA! Probably not, but hey, here’s a couple ways to fuel my writing pipe dream!

My name is Ellen, and I've been babbling on the interwebz about video games for over 15 years. Video games themselves have been a large part of my life since 5-year-old me first encountered a SNES in a children's hospital. Fun times... Video game escapism is still the #1 coping mechanism for adult me these days.

  1. Mass Effect 2 is probably one of my favorite games from last generation. My third favorite BioWare title after Baldurs Gate 2 and KOTOR. It’s one of the few games I’ve replayed all the way through multiple times, and a game that requires a lot of work for the player to get the “Best” Ending.

    1. I still haven’t played KOTOR or Bauldurs Gate, haha. I need to get around to that, eventually. A good friend turned me into a BioWare fanatic with the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games.

I love how Mass Effect 2 is put together, especially the bonds with the companion characters. The final mission still puts me on the edge of my seat.

  2. Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games of the decade. I plan on writing about it sometime in January and in March when it turns 10 years old. I never really liked BioWare games that much outside of the Mass Effect games, KOTOR, Jade Empire, and some of their classic games like Baldurs Gate. Such a shame… I’m sad now.

Well done for beating Horizon on insanity! I remember doing something similar back in the day for the Call of Duty games, I remember not going to school for three days in 2010 because I was so invested in Modern Warfare 2’s Singleplayer and I wanted to 100% the game. I ended up 100%ing MW2, one of the few games that I 100%ed.

    1. It’s an amazing game! I can’t wait to play it again, but I will need some time away from the series to heal, eh. I haven’t played KOTOR, Jade Empire, or Baldurs Gate yet. Soon-ish.

Thank you! Love that sense of accomplishment that comes from game achievements 🙂
