I’m shamelessly stealing the Mass Effect Month article series created by the always awesome Athena over on AmbiGaming in 2017 (which was the Mass Effect 10th anniversary) and turning it into one of those 30 day challenge thingys! Definitely check out Athena Veta’s great content on AmbiGaming and consider supporting her Video Game Relevancy Crusade (TM) on Patreon, if ya got a few bucks to spare.
Please Note: Enjoy… but be warned that there will be unmarked SPOILERS for all of the Mass Effect games. Read at your own risk!
Today’s Mass Effect series question: Do you play as paragon or renegade?
I like to think I’m a good person at heart, despite my many flaws and mistakes. I honestly feel awful playing as evil characters in video games so my first Commander Shepard was 99% Paragon, righteous defender of the galaxy. I did indulge in a few Renegade choices along my journey, though. Most notably punching that lying reporter in Mass Effect 2. No matter what you said to her, she twisted your words to make Shepard seem like a bad person. Well, I’m the type of person who will treat you how you treat me…

I am working on a pure Renegade Shepard playthough at this time, however. Mostly for trophy reasons, of course. I have to say, the Renegade options for store discounts on the Citadel are much more entertaining than the cute “This is my favourite store on the Citadel” line from the Paragon options.

Andromeda didn’t really have a set in stone morality system. It was more of a tone of voice thing that helped shaped your Ryder’s personality. For my main Ryder, I rocked the Casual (aka sarcastic) response option as often as possible. I was nice to good people, and angry with bad people.
Again, I think I’m a good person who treats every civil human with the utmost respect, but I’m NOT a pushover. If you start something with me or hurt someone I care about, I’ll happily unleash the darkness and pent up anger that dwells inside of me. That carries over into my Mass Effect characters for sure!

If for some odd reason you want to read more of my posts, you can find a somewhat organized (and usually up to date) archive of my ramblings… I mean, articles here!
I play the ME trilogy very similarly nearly always a paragon though I have to say a lot of the renegade choices are funnier the “you big stupid jellyfish” line gets me every time I do a renegade run, with Andromeda it’s sarcastic wise-cracking Ryder for the win 😂

Yes! The renegade options are so full of awesome dark humour. Sarcastic Ryder is best Ryder 🙂

I need to do a renegade playthrough but I find it so hard to stick to the “bad” choices because I just want to save everyone and be nice to people. I mean mostly anyway… we won’t talk about some choices. I just want to do another playthrough but as renegade as I can stick to!

I know the feeling! There’s a lot of sarcasm with the Renegade options. That’s helping me enjoy it more than I should be, haha
