This review article was originally posted on my old website on July 9, 2016. Enjoy my past self’s unedited ramblings! I also suspect the game has changed a bit since then…
I was intrigued when I first heard that Nintendo was dabbling in the mobile game scene. One of their initial titles is a freemium Pokemon puzzle game remake, so I decided to give it a try. I’m willing to play any game for free, and I have fond childhood memories of those little pocket monster creatures. I was skeptical as I watched it download from the Google PlayStore. The whole freemium model in general sends chills down this cranky old gamer’s spine; How many crafty paywalls did they slip into this title?

This first impressions article was originally posted on my old website on May 22, 2016. Enjoy my past self’s unedited ramblings! I also suspect the game has changed a bit since then…
I’m currently away from home for the long weekend (thank you Queen Victoria for the extra day off!), and far away from my gamer cave. I decided to download the Pokemon Shuffle Mobile game on my phone. It’s been a while since I’ve played a puzzle game, and my inner child couldn’t resist the familiar Pokemon faces. Adult me cringed at the freemium gameplay model however.

Oh those glorious Nintendo 64 days are the highlight of my entire childhood! So much greatness and two freaking amazing Zelda games in one generation… what more could I ask for? I will come out and say Ocarina of Time is my favourite Zelda title (and all-time favourite video game ever) but Majora’s Mask has a very special place in my gamer heart too! And yeah, I know. I see the endless debates on the interwebz about which Zelda is the “best”. Your opinion totally matters, and by all means share it, but stop wasting time enforcing it on others. And that’s all I have to say about that, eh.
Anyway, I was super excited when the 3D remaster of Majora’s Mask was released on the 3DS a few years back! I was even more excited when I won the online checkout race and managed to snag the limited edition bundle that came with the Skull Kid figure. Take that, greedy resellers! My review of Majora’s Mask 3D was the second review I posted on my old website, back in late 2015. This is mostly the re-posting of that so please note that my review writing style has evolved a lot since then (I ramble on A LOT more these days). Now I’ll throw the words back to past me for a bit.

If you’re reading this, I finished another monthly(ish) update post AND I haven’t deleted my new website yet. Look at me sticking with things. Yay me! Just a reminder, Livid Lightning’s fiscal month begins on the 13th for reasons.
Anyway, life’s A LOT messed up for me lately, and I needed to take an extended break from everything (thus missing my 2nd monthly update post thingy). BUT gaming and blogging things are moving along again, so that’s good! Also nice and distracting. Thank you, video games and social media world!! Once I get a diagnosis from my country’s slow-ass healthcare system, I’ll likely vent a bit about what’s going on. Until then, everything is fine…

I’m still kinda devastated by Bowser’s heartbreaking Blogger Blitz defeat last Friday at the hands of Marjolaine. Alas, I should have never trusted her! Anyway, I decided to honor the big guy by re-posting my Bowser themed response to another great Adventure Rules community event I participated in last year called Charming and Open. Basically, you asked the gracious host Ian a question, and he gave you a question to answer in response. The questions were answered in the form of blog posts, thus creating a great sense of blogging community togetherness!

Welcome to Part 2 of my Mass Effect babblethrough series! You can check out Part 1 here, if you want, but the TL;DR version is after exploring the Citadel for first time, I just legally gained control of the Normandy at the expense of poor Captain Anderson (galactic politics at its finest). The game gives you lots of freedom on what order to do things in, so my next mission is Priority: Liara T’Soni. Even before I knew anything about Liara, I had a strong feeling she was going to be my favourite Mass Effect companion… Ali Hillis voiced characters for the win!!
Obligatory: !!!MAJOR FREAKING SPOILER!!! warning. DO NOT keep reading if you have not played Mass Effect and plan to.

Ladies, gentlemen, dear friends, and heartless spam-bots!
OMG!! It’s time for the 2nd annual Blogger Blitz event brought to you by Ian of Adventure Rules. I had a freaking blast (even though it was hella hard) partaking in last year’s Blogger Blitz insanity with my shero, Lightning Farron. This year the rules are a little different… Only villains are allowed to play and they are bumbling their way through scenarios the blogging community created in the months leading up to this (very cool idea!). I decided to go with my all-time favourite bad guy, Bowser from the iconic Mario series. Bwahahaha!! Sorry, I think I’m still in character. Ahem.
I was actually on the fence about jumping into the action again this year. Distracting health issues and whatnot, plus I knew there would be extra pressure on me as the returning “champion”. I decided to just go for it and, well, here I am. My primary goal is to have fun. I’m not a competitively driven person at all (probably a big reason why I’m not a fan of multiplayer games) but I do love the community togetherness aspect of Blogger Blitz, a lot! And one of the greatest qualities I admire about Bowser is his ability to lose with style. I certainly want to stay true to his character, above all else. Gwahahaha!
