Things on the XIIIth: October 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th, which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

And a new chapter of my blogging life begins! Wait…

What?? Nothing happened, I swear. My domain has always ended in .blog… and I so didn’t delete my old WordPress and social media accounts… honest. Sigh. I did. I’ll vent about what happened in more detail in my Life Things section below, but this meme just about sums up what caused my latest self-destruct sequence.

Fear of Abandonment Meme

I pressed the left button on a very close friend who seemed done with me, backpedaled like a sledgehammer to the right button, pressed the left button again in defeat, and now I don’t know what the meaning of life is anymore. Ahem.

Including intense soul-crushing personal relationship pain, here’s how Fiscal Month October 2019 went! Why?? *sobs uncontrollably* …sniffs. I’m good. It’ll all be alright. Oh, and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving weekend! I’m visiting my family and eating turkey. Great coping mechanisms. Gobble, gobble, eh…

Things on the XIIIth: August & September 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th (unless I miss a month… twice in a row… oops), which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

Hello, my treasured internet readers and valued view-generating spam-bots!

I’ve been a mess again, as usual, and think I’ve recovered from my latest emotional meltdown. That life thing is crazy, man. I’ll babble about some things that have been bugging me in my “Life & Other Things” section, if you are at all interested in reading me whine about stuff.

Simpsons Internet Coping Meme
I’m not sure if memes and social media are the greatest of coping mechanisms, but they are making me slightly feel less sad and alone right now.

I consider 13 my lucky number. So it being Friday the 13th with a full moon makes it an extra special day for me. Here’s to hoping the universe sends those good vibes to anyone who needs them!

Things on the XIIIth (Sorry, XXth): April 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that (usually) happens on the 13th, which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning (but not this month). Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

True story: The Final Fantasy games have taught me roman numerals. That’s how I know 20 is XX (I’m right, right??). Not sure how useful that knowledge is in today’s world, but oh well. Anyway, here’s the late edition of my blog’s fiscal month update! Happy 4/20 to all my stoner friends out there too, by the way. Not my jam, to be honest, but if it makes you happy, blaze it responsibly, eh!

Things on the XIIIth: March 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th, which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

Winter…. I’m begging you… PLEASE GO AWAY! I’m so tired of snowbanks, freezing weather, my car getting stuck, and every part of my body hurts from shoveling and falling on icy sidewalks.

Winter Claws
Winter almost literally has its horrible claws dug in here…

To top it all off, my area of the world likes to do this Daylight Saving Time crap where we set the clocks ahead an hour last weekend. Not only does that mess with my internal clock, it also means I get to walk to work in the dark-cold again. Yay… Seriously. We aren’t all farmers who need max daylight hours these days… or whatever the hell the reason for originally starting this was. Some archaic traditions need to die, and changing the clocks is one of them.

Spring and actual longer days will come soon. But yeah, here’s what I’ve been up to this fiscal month… so tired.

Kid Icarus Uprising ⚡Review

Kid Icarus Uprising Game and Amiibo

Platform Played On: 3DS
Developer: Project Sora, Sora Ltd.
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Third-Person Shooter
Release Date: March 23, 2012

This is the re-posting of the Kid Icarus Uprising review I wrote on my old website. This article was originally posted on September 19, 2015. Enjoy past me’s mostly unedited ramblings! My Amiibo addiction has apparently been a problem for many years now…

Prior to this game I had no experience with the Kid Icarus series. Mostly due to my crippling Amiibo addiction, I wanted to see what game the Pit, Palutena, and Dark Pit Amiibo came from. This led me to check stock at my local EB Games. The search revealed that they had a mint condition used copy that I snapped up in March. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and humor in the game. This unique charm helped me get passed some glaring faults I found.

Things on the XIIIth: February 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th, which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

Tis the month of love… or at least that’s what the Hallmark Corporation wants it to be. I won’t go off into a rant in this progress post, but damn, I’m not really a fan Valentine’s Day. It’s mostly the annoying subliminal (super-liminal?) messages that businesses use to push subpar chocolate, overpriced jewelry, and wilted flowers. Yeah. I’m probably jealous on some level… oh well!

Alrighty. I’ve sated my need to whine a bit, so on with the things I’ve been up to this month! Is it St. Patrick’s Day yet? This will also be shorter than usual. Long work day with tons of things going on so I’m not feeling as babbly as usual. Here we go, though!

Embrace Thy Backlog Monster!

“Backlog: just a small word but one which tends to send a shiver down most gamers’ spines. That sense of unease and discomfort experienced when looking at our pile of unplayed titles is a feeling we’re all too familiar with. Yet try as we might, we just can’t stop ourselves from adding entries to our library of games to be played and feeling oh-so-guilty about it.” – Kim of Later Levels

Tell me about it! Oh and you’re now reading the words of someone who started blogging in the WordPress world under the theme of “Conquering the Gaming Backlog” (me, in case it wasn’t obvious). Ah, those were the days… if only I could yell some words of advice back to 2015 me. So. Many. Things. I’d do differently. Alas! But I digress. The learning point I got from that experience is: I’ve accepted that I can never keep up with the pace of games I wanna play, thus the backlog monster in unconquerable. But why make thy video game backlog thy enemy? If you can’t beat ’em, embrace ’em!

The awesome Kim over at Later Levels is running a cool collaboration, that I sorta helped with, called #LoveYourBacklog. You can check out the details on Later Levels for more info on how you can get involved. It’s really cool! There are badges and award categories too. The major message is: we all have backlogs and should be proud of them! So show off that fine backlog monster of yours, eh.

Anyway, here’s my entry in the collaboration that I totally helped with!! This is so cool. I’ve never really played a role in shaping an event before. Thanks, Kim! You rock.
