N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Paused)

Welcome to Part 6 of my Mass Effect 2 Platinum Trophy quest! You can check out Part 5 here.

I will be honest… there are now very painful memories attached to the Mass Effect series due to recent BFF-losing events (we talked about the games a lot, I played ME3 multiplayer with them regularly, and I still miss them greatly). I’ve been taking a break from my quest to play a new IP game (GreedFall) while I heal.

In the meantime, I don’t want to forget what I was doing, so here’s what Space Dick and I accomplished during Week 8 (September 1-7 2019)! TL;DR – I beat Horizon on Insanity difficulty during a freaking hurricane before my power went out.

N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Week 7)

Welcome to Part 5 of my Mass Effect 2 Platinum Trophy quest! You can check out Part 4 here.

I… really love the Infiltrator class! I’m so glad this Platinum Trophy Insanity quest pushed me to try it out. There’s nothing sweeter than cloaking and landing the perfect headshot on an unfortunate enemy. I’ve gathered tons of sniper upgrades and damage boosts at this point. I can pretty much one-shot any lesser enemy, even if they have full shields up. If I get caught dying outside of cover, I can cloak to get the hell out of there. I’ve even used the cloaking ability to get an objective without having to kill all the enemies. Awesome. Insanity difficulty is more fun instead of frustrating now. Yay!

N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 7 3
Is this called… tactical? It’s actually fun! The Sniper Rifle needs moar ammo, though.

And yes, this is taking a lot longer than my Mass Effect 1 Platinum quest, but that’s okay. Other things in my life take priority over video games these days. Here’s how Week 7 went down, which covers August 25th to August 31st 2019.

N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Week 3, 4, and 5)

Welcome to Part 3 of my Mass Effect 2 platinum trophy quest! You can check out Part 2 here.

Ugh! Technology. Unfortunately, my capture card failed to save a ton of screenshots from the last part of the game, but at the end of Week 4 I had completed Ellen Shepard’s easy playthrough, leaving my evil Space Dick Shepard with the task of earning 2 trophies to score the shiny platinum.

I also enjoyed the hell out of the Shadow Broker DLC that was included with my game! My only complaint about Mass Effect 2 is that Liara isn’t a companion character, but the DLC lets you spend some quality time with her at least. Did I mention I love Liara? Because I do!! Ahem.

N7 Platinum Mass Effect 2 Week 3 and 4 4
I love these characters so much!! 😭

On Week 5, the Insanity Renegade playthrough began… sorta. My ol’ Space Dick Shepard (1st version) didn’t get very far. I wanted to keep him as an Adept, staying true to the wicked asshole I created in Mass Effect 1. Unfortunately, being an Adept on Insanity level Mass Effect 2 is a huge pain in the ass and required more patience than my depressed brain could handle.

Here’s some of the highlights I was able to recover from Week 3, 4, and 5! This period covers July 7th to the 27th 2019.

N7: Platinum Mass Effect 2 (Week 1)

As soon as I Platinumed Mass Effect 1 on June 21st, I ejected the game disc from my PlayStation 3 and inserted my copy of Mass Effect 2. Rolling this trophy quest right along, eh! And, DAMN!! I forgot how freaking badass ME2’s opening is. Wow…

It took me a while to adjust to the combat system changes (especially after having just completed 4 consecutive playthroughs of ME1). For one, the new need for ammo in the form of a cooling clip mechanic was a big change. Cover is also infinitely more important than it was in the first game. Even playing ME2 on Casual difficulty, my Shepard gets shredded if I stay out in the open for too long. Oh and a global power cooldown was another change that was challenging to adjust to.

Anyway, here’s how Week 1 of my latest Platinum quest went down! I’m a little behind on these progress posts but I’m going to try to catch up. Babbling about Mass Effect is what Livid Lightning is all about these days!
